South Bay Classroooms Receive $19,000 for Energy-Saving Efforts

 The South Bay Cities Council of Governments (SBCCOG) and Southern California Regional Energy Network (SoCalREN) teamed up to award 19 South Bay classrooms grants of $1,000 each ($19,000 total) for taking energy-saving actions at home. Classrooms representing Hawthorne School District and Los Angeles Unified School District earned the rewards through SoCalREN’s Kits for Kids program for third and fourth grade students. The program provides hands-on education about the benefits of energy efficiency.

Small Businesses Celebrate Energy Savings and Community Impact Through Southern California Regional Energy Network (SoCalREN) Programs

Twenty-six small businesses (24 in Gardena and two in neighboring unincorporated areas) are celebrating significant energy savings and enhanced community service thanks to no-cost, comprehensive energy efficiency assessments and upgrades made possible through the SoCalREN Commercial Energy Efficiency Programs, conducted in partnership with the South Bay Cities Council of Governments (SBCCOG).

 The South Bay Cities Council of Governments (SBCCOG) has partnered with newly-formed HERO (Housing, Empowerment, Recovery and Outreach) Community Services to deliver person-centered, field-based outreach, case management and housing retention services designed to help individuals and families experiencing or exiting homelessness achieve long-term housing stability and wellbeing. Together they will collaborate to serve areas throughout the beach cities region and Los Angeles County Department of Public Health Service Planning Area 8.

The South Bay Cities Council of Governments (SBCCOG) will celebrate 30 years of working with 16 cities and Los Angeles County on the shared goal of maximizing the quality of life and productivity in the South Bay at its March 27, 2025, General Assembly. The SBCCOG is celebrating the 30th anniversary of the organization’s founding at its 25th annual symposium where the region’s thought leaders gather to share ideas and discuss important issues. The theme of this year’s event is "The SBCCOG at 30: A Legacy of Success, A Vision for Tomorrow.”

South Bay Cities Council of Governments Celebrates Completion of I-405 at 182nd at Crenshaw Boulevard Operational Improvement Project

The South Bay Cities Council of Governments (SBCCOG), celebrates the completion of a project to improve operational conditions of the Interstate 405 (I-405) freeway mainline and its on-and-off ramps at Crenshaw Boulevard and 182nd Street in the City of Torrance. The project is designed to improve traffic flow and safety at the 1.2 mile stretch of I-405 located from post 13.3 to 15.8 and at the Crenshaw Blvd. Interchange.

Redondo Beach Achieves Functional Zero Street Homelessness

Redondo Beach City Hall is the first city in the South Bay area to achieve Functional Zero Street Homelessness. Through a South Bay Cities Council of Governments pilot program, Functional Zero is defined when the inflow of individuals who become homeless is less than those who are placed in interim or permanent housing over a six-month period, and the homeless population, as a whole, has a median duration on the streets of less than 90 days.
