The South Bay Cities Council of Governments (SBCCOG), celebrates the completion of a project to improve operational conditions of the Interstate 405 (I-405) freeway mainline and its on-and-off ramps at Crenshaw Boulevard and 182nd Street in the City of Torrance. The project is designed to improve traffic flow and safety at the 1.2 mile stretch of I-405 located from post 13.3 to 15.8 and at the Crenshaw Blvd. Interchange. 

Redondo Beach City Hall is the first city in the South Bay area to achieve Functional Zero Street Homelessness. Through a South Bay Cities Council of Governments pilot program, Functional Zero is defined when the inflow of individuals who become homeless is less than those who are placed in interim or permanent housing over a six-month period, and the homeless population, as a whole, has a median duration on the streets of less than 90 days.

The South Bay Cities Council of Governments (SBCCOG), a government agency dedicated to improving the quality of life and productivity in the South Bay subregion of Los Angeles County, has elected city of Gardena Mayor Pro Tem Rodney Tanaka to lead its board as 2024/25 chair.

The South Bay Cities Council of Governments (SBCCOG) and Southern California Regional Energy Network (SoCalREN) teamed up to award 12 South Bay classrooms grants of $1,000 each ($12,000 total) for taking energy-saving actions at home. Classrooms representing 135th Street Elementary School in Gardena, Towne Elementary School in Carson and Zela Davis Elementary School in Hawthorne earned the rewards through SoCalREN’s Kits for Kids program for third and fourth grade students. The program provides hands-on education about the benefits of energy efficiency.

The South Bay Cities Council of Governments (SBCCOG) has selected two Rancho Palos Verdes teachers as winners of its 2023/2024 “South Bay Sustainability in Action” Photo Contest. The winners tied for first place among 10 finalists chosen through an online vote of attendees of the SBCCOG’s annual General Assembly event. The March event serves as an opportunity for the region's thought leaders to gather, share ideas and discuss important issues to the South Bay subregion. The winning images depict South Bay children learning about sustainability in their “South Bay” backyard.

A South Bay Cities Council of Governments (SBCCOG) study indicates that most accessory dwelling units (ADUs)—known as “granny flats”—in the South Bay are being rented at market rates, or not rented out at all and instead used for personal use or to house friends and family.
