Metro (LACMTA) is in the process of developing a “Sustainable Planning Policy.” At this point in its development the elements include a planning framework, sustainability principles and priorities, and place types. Alexdra Oster, a transportation planner working for Metro’s Sustainability Policy Manager, will report on this work in process.
This new policy is important to cities because it will find its way into Metro’s Call for Projects. This will be the best opportunity for cities and the SBCCOG to influence the ultimate policy. Metro wants your feedback.
Three initiatives are about to begin and Wally Siembab will explain the work scopes and schedules for each. Subsequent LCWG meetings this year will focus especially on the PEV Readiness planning and on the Compass project.
- ·Regional and sub-regional PEV Readiness Planning that will be led by UCLA’s Luskin Center.
- 12 Compass Project: Neighborhood Oriented Development Feasibility Study which will focus on three quite different study areas.
- EVSE Workshop being planned for May 24 which will clarify much of the confusion around the aggressive marketing of the various vendors and provide guidance before cities purchase charging units for their municipal fleets or for public deployment.
David Magarian and Wally Siembab will also provide updates on a number of other projects. The most significant are the status of funding for the planned BEV Demonstration Project (and expansion of the current LUV Demonstration); the application involving 5 of our cities to the Caltrans Community Based Transportation Planning Grant Program; and the workshops on complete streets (recently held by the Luskin Center and upcoming at SCAG).
