South Bay Cities Council of Governments and Southern California Regional Energy Network Recognize Cities’ Energy-Saving Achievements

The South Bay Cities Council of Governments (SBCCOG) in partnership with the Southern California Regional Energy Network (SoCalREN), recognized South Bay cities for their efforts in pursuing energy-efficiency initiatives and sustainability-related tasks over the past year as part of the second annual “South Bay Energy and Climate Recognition Program.” While all cities received recognition for their efforts,seven cities took home gold-level awards this year: Carson, El Segundo, Gardena, Hawthorne, Manhattan Beach, Rolling Hills Estates and Torrance.

South Bay Cities Council of Governments Celebrates Completion of I-405 at 182nd at Crenshaw Boulevard Operational Improvement Project

The South Bay Cities Council of Governments (SBCCOG), celebrates the completion of a project to improve operational conditions of the Interstate 405 (I-405) freeway mainline and its on-and-off ramps at Crenshaw Boulevard and 182nd Street in the City of Torrance. The project is designed to improve traffic flow and safety at the 1.2 mile stretch of I-405 located from post 13.3 to 15.8 and at the Crenshaw Blvd. Interchange.

Redondo Beach Achieves Functional Zero Street Homelessness

Redondo Beach City Hall is the first city in the South Bay area to achieve Functional Zero Street Homelessness. Through a South Bay Cities Council of Governments pilot program, Functional Zero is defined when the inflow of individuals who become homeless is less than those who are placed in interim or permanent housing over a six-month period, and the homeless population, as a whole, has a median duration on the streets of less than 90 days.

Learn About the South Bay Local Travel Network

It's been said "the turtle wins the race." But the South Bay Cities Council of Governments (SBCCOG) is hoping it will also improve street safety, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and lower the cost of local travel in the South Bay. City by city, the SBCCOG is rolling out the network that will support the growing market and safe use of lightweight, zero-emission, low-speed vehicles for local trips (think neighborhood electric vehicles, e-bikes, pedal bikes, scooters, etc.) as they share the road with cars on existing low-speed streets. The planned 243-mile network will eventually connect the entire South Bay. Watch this new video to learn more.
