Enter the SBESC 20th Anniversary “South Bay Sustainability in Action” Photo Contest
Attention South Bay Shutterbugs:
The South Bay Cities Council of Governments is celebrating the 20th anniversary of its South Bay Environmental Services Center (SBESC) program. For two decades, the SBESC has worked with its member cities and their utilities to provide resources about energy efficiency, water conservation, transportation options (such as carpool and vanpool), waste reduction and recycling to South Bay cities, school districts, residents and businesses.
As part of the festivities, the SBCCOG is inviting the South Bay community to submit photos that demonstrate sustainable action in their cities and the South Bay. We welcome your creativity, but some ideas include replacing grass with drought tolerant plants, planting a tree, taking part in a beach cleanup, installing solar panels and collecting water in a rain barrel. We want to see how you are being a good steward of this beautiful place we call the South Bay.
All photos should reflect places in any of the following cities of the South Bay:
Cities of Carson, El Segundo, Gardena, Hawthorne, Hermosa Beach, Inglewood, Lawndale, Lomita, Manhattan Beach, Palos Verdes Estates, Rancho Palos Verdes, Redondo Beach, Rolling Hills, Rolling Hills Estates, Torrance, along with the Harbor City/San Pedro/Wilmington communities of the City of Los Angeles and unincorporated areas of the County of Los Angeles Districts 2 and 4.
A panel of judges, including a member of the South Bay media, the SBCCOG board of directors’ officers, SBCCOG leadership and staff will judge the entries and select the top-10. Images will be judged on their representation for criteria that may include, but is not limited to, scenic beauty, originality, technical excellence, composition, overall impact, and artistic merit. The judges will follow these guidelines:
- Images should represent locations in South Bay region of Los Angeles County, including areas that are publicly accessible. Submissions should be taken within the last three to five years, so that they are representative of the location as it currently appears.
- Please avoid any trademarked products or logos in your photos.
Entries must be received by 5 p.m. on January 10, 2024. A winning photo will be selected by a voting opportunity presented via email of those who have RSVPd to attend the 24th General Assembly event and featured on the SBCCOG’s website home page, its social media channels and in its quarterly newsletter South Bay Watch. The winner will be announced and showcased at the March 28, 2024 General Assembly event.
