It was the decade that brought us the first internet browser, O.J. Simpson and the white Ford Bronco, and the post-cold war era. It also marked a beginning for the South Bay Cities Council of Governments (SBCCOG). In the spring of 1994, an organization called the South Bay Cities Association formally became a council of governments for the South Bay’s 15 cities and the City of Los Angeles (Los Angeles County later joined in 2009). Since then, the SBCCOG has worked as one to develop programs to address a variety of issues impacting the subregion.

As the SBCCOG celebrates its 30th year, it’s inviting the public to look back at its own past and submit photos that capture the essence of the 90s in the South Bay.

Whether it be street scenes, iconic local landmarks, businesses, everyday life or people that defined the community at that time, please share your unique perspective on what made South Bay unforgettable in the 90s. Submissions may include photos you have taken or that you have in your possession from the 90s or recent photos that capture remnants and/or spirit of this era.

Entries must be received by 5 p.m., March 7, 2025. The winning photo, along with nine runners-up, will be selected by the SBCCOG staff and board of directors. The winners will be featured on the SBCCOG’s website, social media channels, and in its quarterly newsletter, South Bay Watch. The grand prize winner will be announced and celebrated at the March 27, 2025, General Assembly event.
