Livable Communities Working Group Meeting

May 21, 2014 @ 2:30 pm - 4:30 pm

The South Bay Cities Council of Governments Livable Communities Working Group is scheduled to meet on Wednesday, May 21, 2014.

MEETING TIME  –  2:30 P.M. to 4:30 P.M.

LOCATION:  South Bay Environmental Services Center, 20285 So. Western Avenue, Suite 100, Torrance 90501

The meeting agenda and minutes are posted below.

To LCWG Members;

Derek Steele of the Social Justice Learning Institute will describe the new SJLI program – the Urban Greening Plan for Inglewood and Lennox.  The COG has been working with Derek and the SJLI for over a year to design and fund an NEV initiative that would fit into their urban agriculture and food distribution program.  The Urban Greening Plan should have wide applicability throughout the South Bay.

I will continue with the third of my presentations on Hong Kong insights for planners.  This one will describe the ecology of Hong Kong’s public transportation system, the most effective in the world.  “Ecology” refers to the various elements beyond route-miles and level of service that are components of success.  This will provide the context for discussing public transit in LA County.

There will also be the usual updates of programs and policies that affect South Bay cities.  Metro’s Mobility Matrix planning which is about to begin is of special interest.  I’d like to get your opinion on a couple of COG strategy issues, one of them on the future of Class II bike or “roller” lanes.

The next LCWG meeting will be in May (and then July, September, and November) as we will alternate 3rd Wednesday’s with the COG’s Energy Efficiency Climate Action Plan Working Group (EECAP) for the rest of 2014.

Hope to see you next Wednesday.  As usual, please RSVP to Rosie Lackow at [email protected].
