Livable Communities Mtg March 21, 2012

March 21, 2012 @ 2:30 pm - 4:30 pm

The Livable Communities Working Group is scheduled to meet March 21, 2012 at the new SBESC office located at 20285 S. Western Ave, Suite 100 in the City of Torrance. The meeting documents are posted below.

The March topic will be “An Introduction to GIS and the South Bay GIS Working Group.” Sonali Tambe of Hermosa Beach will discuss the analytical capabilities of the GIS technology and the activities of our GIS Working Group. For example, prior to the Working Group’s formation there was no good South Bay street centerline file. Since GIS resources vary between cities, a very important issue is the options for resource-poor cities, if any. Mohja Rhoads staffs the GIS Working Group for the SBCCOG and she will also contribute to the presentation.

Three initiatives are about to begin, and the work scopes and schedules for each will be explained at the meeting:

  • Regional and sub-regional PEV Readiness Planning that will be led by UCLA’s Luskin Center.
  • 2012 Compass Project:  Neighborhood Oriented Development Feasibility Study which will focus on three quite different study areas.
  • EVSE Vendor Workshop now being planned in order to clarify much of the confusion around the aggressive marketing of the various vendors.

Updates on a number of other projects will also be discussed at the meeting. The most significant are the status of funding for the planned BEV Demonstration Project (and expansion of the current LUV Demonstration); the application involving 5 of our cities to the Caltrans Community Based Transportation Planning Grant Program; and the workshops on complete streets (recently held by the Luskin Center and upcoming at SCAG).

Hope to see you in our new offices. To access our large parking lot, you must turn west at Western WAY. There is no street access to the parking lot from Western Ave.  The building is at the SW corner of Western Ave. and Western Way.  (There is no cost for parking).

Please RSVP to Rosie Lackow at [email protected].
