Livable Communities Mtg July 18, 2012

July 18, 2012 @ 2:30 pm - 4:30 pm

The Livable Communities Working Group is scheduled to meet on July 18, 2012 at 2:30pm, at the new SBESC office located at 20285 S. Western Ave, Suite 100 in the City of Torrance.

The agenda has been posted below.

Please RSVP to Rosie Lackow at [email protected]

As predicted earlier this year, the July meeting agenda is full.  Lance Harris and Austin Anderson of Pro Forma Advisors, will introduce their approach to this 2012 Compass project that will evaluate the potential for neighborhood oriented development in 3 study areas – in Gardena, Lennox and Hermosa Beach.  This initial report on the project will include the “base conditions” in each study area.  Presentation in subsequent months will build on this analysis

Sarah Jepson and Alexandra Oster of Metro will return in order to present the complete first draft of Metro’s Countywide Sustainability Planning Policy.  Alex introduced the concept at the April meeting and received valuable feedback from the LCWG.  This presentation will include the complete first draft of the policy and, as in April, Metro is interested in our feedback.  This material is challenging to take-in but is worth the effort since this policy will influence the criteria in future Calls for Projects.

The SBCCOG has three significant projects about to begin and I will briefly review the status of each.  Those projects will be the focus of subsequent meetings as the LCWG will function as a sort of steering committee in each case.  They are:

  • Regional and Sub-Regional PEV Readiness Planning – regional plan is underway and the SBCCOG is about to sign a contract with SCAG to begin the sub-regional effort.
  • BEV Demonstration Project – we are expecting approval of our contract on 7/13 by the AQMD Board.
  • Car-sharing – our car sharing initiative has taken an interesting turn which I will describe at the meeting.

I’ll also provide a few updates on other projects, notably the UC Davis CEC funded project in the South Bay, the potential for a ride share web-based service, and the development of the SBCCOG website (what capabilities would you like to have?)
