The Road to Functional Zero Homelessness – Redondo Beach Moves Closer to Solving Homelessness by Getting Laser Focused on its Own Backyard

Redondo Beach has reduced homelessness by 90% through the help of an SBCCOG-developed pilot program. The city recently celebrated achieving the goal of functional zero street homelessness.

Redondo Beach Achieves Functional Zero Street Homelessness

Redondo Beach City Hall is the first city in the South Bay area to achieve Functional Zero Street Homelessness. Through a South Bay Cities Council of Governments pilot program, Functional Zero is defined when the inflow of individuals who become homeless is less than those who are placed in interim or permanent housing over a six-month period, and the homeless population, as a whole, has a median duration on the streets of less than 90 days.
